Part 1

Who we are

We are two friends from Galway, Ireland, brought together by a shared love of Argentina and a curiosity about the connections between our two countries.

An té a bhíonn siúlach, bíonn sé scéalach, those who travel have stories to tell. Inspired by this Irish seanfhocal, we created the Irish Argentine Project to celebrate the histories, people and traditions that connect Ireland and Argentina.

Having navigated life in another country ourselves, we know how valuable it is to find reliable information, useful contacts and a sense of community. We built the resource we wish we'd had so that the journey can be easier for others who may follow.

Though our languages differ, we believe our cultures share a remarkable affinity. From our humour and warmth to our love of conversation, storytelling and good company. This project is our way of celebrating those similarities, honouring our shared history and bringing the Irish-Argentine community closer together.

The site is run from Ireland. It is independent of the Irish and Argentine governments, their embassies and every community organisation, and it is not a law firm.

Part 2

What we do

Four kinds of work, all in service of the same connection.

  • Compiling information

Gathering the history, the people, the places, the organisations and the practical steps into one place, each with its source and the date we checked it.

  • Building the site

Designing and writing these pages so that what we found is easy to navigate, on a phone or at a desk, without an account.

  • Meeting the community

Talking with the people and the organisations who keep the link alive, and pointing you to them.

  • Sharing our passion

Telling anyone curious enough to look what we love about these two countries, in both directions.

Part 3

What we promise

Every fact shows its source and the date we checked it. A historical claim, a person, a place, an organisation, an event, a fee or a deadline appears only with a source and a date. Where published sources disagree, the page says so, shows each version with its source, and tells you the wording we use.

A grade on every person. Each person in the register carries a grade for their Irish link: documented, reported, claimed but weak, a connector without Irish descent, or no Irish descent despite the lists. A grade is never raised by inference, and a surname alone is not evidence.

Part 4

Report a change

If an organisation has moved, closed or changed hands, if a date is wrong, or if you hold a source we are missing, tell us. A person replies, and the page shows the correction with its date and source.
